![]() ![]() There is a hybrid of this and Curio talinoides that is known as 'Trident Blue'. long (3-5 cm), the powdery glaucous blue, finger-like fleshy leaves are borne on the prostrate stems. It is grown in sandy, dry to slightly moist soils in sun or some partial shade. Hugging the ground, Senecio serpens (Blue Chalksticks) is a dwarf semi-trailing succulent of great ornamental appeal with its cylindrical blue-green leaves. Fleshy leaves are finger-like, slightly upcurved, and up to 5 inches (12.5 cm) long. It grows up to 24 inches (60 cm) tall and spreads up to 5 feet (1.5 m) wide. Cultivation ĭrought tolerant, the plant is used as a ground cover, border plant or in a rock garden. Senecio cylindricus is a succulent shrub with slender glaucous gray leaves that encircle the trailing stems and form handsome tufts at the stem tips. It should be distinguished from Curio talinoides by its shorter, broader and often boat-shaped leaves. ![]() It was first formally described as Cacalia repens by Carl Linnaeus in 1767. Flowering season is usually between spring and autumn. ![]() The flowers appear as off-white from distance, but would have yellow and pink tinges on the stamen up-close. It produces small and round, pompom-like flowers that may superficially resemble a virus. It is a semi-trailing, low-growing dwarf shrub that forms a dense mat that reaches only about 20 cm in height and features silvery-blueish, finger-like fleshy leaves. Commonly named blue chalksticks, it is used as an ornamental plant. A succulent endemic to the Western Cape province of South Africa, it is typically found growing from crevices in rocky sandstone slopes.
